1121 1st Free Fall

#9         A small rocket is launched vertically, attaining a maximum speed at burnout of 1.0 multiplied by 102 m/s and thereafter coasting straight up to a maximum altitude of 1500 m. Assuming the rocket accelerated uniformly while the engine was on, how long did it fire

a)   In the upper part when it is in free fall, find the distance it moves.
b)   Subtract this distance from the total distance.
c)   Use this new distance to find the time.

#11      A bag of sand dropped by a would-be assassin from the roof of a building just misses Tough Tony, a gangster 2-m tall. The missile traverses the height of Tough Tony in 0.05 s, landing with a thud at his feet. How high was the building? Ignore friction.

a) Find the initial velocity of the missile at Tough Tony head.
b) The velocity above is the final velocity from the release point to Tough Tony head.
c) This final velocity will allow you to find the distance from the top of the building to Tough Tony Head
d) Don't forget to add two meters.
